It has two names: Escola Profissional de Alte (EPALTE) and Escola Profissional Cândido Guerreiro because it pays tribute to the poet Cândido Guerreiro, who was a poet in Alte.
Nowadays our school has a new building which was inaugurated on November 28th, 2008.
The aim of this vocational school is to prepare the students to join the job market or to go to the university. All the courses last 3 years and students get double certification: the 12th grade and a specific course.
The school has 10 courses divided into the following courses:
- Tourism Technician: foreign languages (English and German) and communication skills are the most important. Students can be receptionists, entertainers or work in travel agencies.
- Commerce Technician: Economics, English, Selling and Purchasing and Maths are the main subjects. Students can be cashiers, shop assistants and work on the distribution of products/services.
- Civil Construction: it is divided into two parts: Project Designer and Building Inspector. Students visit building sites and draw house plans. The main subjects are Maths, Technical Drawing and Physics.
- Computer Technician: students work either with software or hardware. They also provide communication networks. They can be computer programmers or repair computers shops.
- Food Quality Controller: the most important subjects are Microbiology, Chemistry and Hygiene and Safety at Work. They can work in labs, control food and water in different places( supermarkets, kitchens in restaurants, hotels).
- Graphic Designer Course: they can be web-designers , draw layouts, illustrate books and create different types of cards and logos. They must be very creative and innovative.
